Ham and Cheese Rolls

Prepare a batch of Dinner Rolls dough.

Additional Ingredients
4 tablespoons butter, softened
4 tablespoons Dijon or spicy deli mustard
8 to 12 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
8 to 12 ounces thin sliced ham, cut into 1 to 2 inch pieces
1 egg white plus 1 tablespoon water

Divide the roll dough in half. Roll each half into a square about 14 inches by 14 inches. Spread each square first with 2 tablespoons of softened butter and then 2 tablespoons of dijon or spicy deli mustard (more or less depending on your preference). Each square will have 4 to 6 ounces of shredded cheese and 4 to 6 ounces of ham. Top each square first with some of the cheese, and then the ham pieces, and then the remainder of the cheese. (Having cheese both underneath and on top of the ham helps bind the roll better while it bakes.) Roll up the prepared dough like rolling up cinnamon rolls, pinching the seam closed at the end. With a sharp serrated knife, slice the rolled dough into 1-inch slices. Arrange the rolls on a baking tray that has been lightly greased or lined with parchment paper. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg white and water. Brush the tops and sides of the rolls with the egg white mixture. If desired sprinkle a little more cheese over the tops. Cover the rolls and allow to rise until double in size, about 45 to 60 minutes.

Bake in a 375 degree oven for 14 to 16 minutes or until lightly browned on top.
